John Dieruff known as “Dutch” John settled High Valley Ranch in 1887. He built the log cabin that still stands today as part of the homestead. In the early 1900’s a local banker, David Russell, purchased 20 acres from Dutch John and built a summer home. In 1982, High Valley Ranch was sold to its current owner who has maintained this mountain wilderness.
